This fifth-generation Gold Wing, the GL1800 (SC47), was the first all-new Gold Wing in 13 years when it arrived for 2001. It carried a larger 1,832 cc (111.8 cubic-inch) flat-six with fuel injection, lifting output from 99 to 117 horsepower. Its extruded aluminum frame, made of 31 elements, barely half the number in the previous GL1500, brought the overall weight down. Anti-lock brakes were an option.
The 2006 model added further options: an airbag, an in-dash GPS called Internavi with audio guidance through the speakers and headset cables, and a rider comfort package with saddle heating, heated grips, and adjustable engine-air vents ahead of the rider’s foot pegs.
