The 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega was an amazing car with Formula 1 DNA in its blood. So why wasn’t it successful?

In this episode of Automotive Revolution, Rick tells the story of the Cosworth’s brief shining moment, a subcompact four-passenger automobile produced by Chevrolet for the 1975 and 1976 model years. It was a limited-production version of the Chevrolet Vega, with higher performance.

The star of the show in this Vega is the Cosworth twin cam engine that is 2 L 122 cubic inches and puts out 110 horsepower. While not a lot of horsepower compared to today’s cars, the significance of that is that the base Vega engine was producing only 78 horsepower.

Next time you are at the Martin Auto Museum, be sure to see the car that Car and Driver magazine chose as one of the “10 Best Collectible Cars” in its fourth annual Ten Best issue, saying: “We’re talking about historical significance here.”
