Do you want to know how to really annoy Cadillac buffs? Just tell them the original Cadillac was nothing more than a Ford with a Cadillac name slapped on the front . In many ways that’s true!
In this edition of Automotive Revolution, Rick DeBruhl looks at the origins of the 1905 Cadillac Type F, the oldest original car on display at the Martin Auto Museum.
This 1905 Cadillac Model F Touring is a four-passenger car with a 98.2 cubic inch, 9 horsepower, single-cylinder, horizontal engine. The engine is located under the car, and a chain drive powers the rear wheels.
The Model F has a top speed of 32 miles per hour, which is notable for the time due to its streamlined body and powerful engine. It has two forward gears and one reverse, and the brakes are controlled externally
Next time you are at the Martin Auto Museum, be sure to check out the oldest original vehicle in our collection.
