It may have been designed for the NASCAR super speedways, but the Plymouth Superbird was sold in dealerships back in 1970. It’s one of the most outrageous cars ever sold to the public. The Plymouth Superbird is a highly modified, short-lived version of the Plymouth Road Runner with well-known graphics and a distinctive horn sound.

In Rick DeBruhl’s Automotive Evolution, take a detailed look at this winged warrior.

This 1970 Plymouth Superbird sports a 440 cubic inch V-8 (correct coded) producing 375 horsepower and mated to a A727 automatic transmission. The original paint is EK2 Vitamin C Orange. There were 626 produced in this configuration.

Be sure to check out this beauty the next time you are at the Martin Auto Museum.
